The Office of the Provost in coordination with the Academic Affairs is bringing a distinguished assessment scholar Dr. Barbara Walvoord to KU to help us with our program assessment process and the HLC reaccreditation. Dr. Walvoord is Interim Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching at Simmons College and a Professor Emerita at University of Notre Dame. As the most well-known assessment consultant, writer and speaker, Barbara has consulted or led workshops at more than 400 institutions of higher education throughout the U.S. on topics of assessment, teaching and learning, and writing across the curriculum. Dr. Barbara Walvoord is Interim Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching at Simmons College and a Professor Emerita at University of Notre Dame. As the most well-known assessment consultant, writer and speaker, Barbara has consulted or led workshops at more than 400 institutions of higher education throughout the U.S. on topics of assessment, teaching and learning, and writing across the curriculum. She founded and directed four faculty development programs at research and liberal arts institutions (Central College in Iowa, Loyola College in Maryland, University of Cincinnati, and University of Notre Dame) and has a very deep understanding of teaching, learning and assessment in higher education as a faculty member, faculty developer and researcher. She has published many best-selling books on assessment, college writing, and teaching and learning. Her best-known publication is Assessment Clear and Simple: A Practical Guide for Institutions, Departments, and General Education.
