Workshop: Improving Your Research Impact (Seminar)

Marc L. Greenberg (Dept of Slavic Languages & Literatures) and Ada Emmett (Office of Scholarly Communication & Copyright)

Thursday November 07, 2013
10:30am - 12:30pm
Watson Library, Clark Instruction Center (WATS 340)
Did you know that scholarly value"our research impact"is being measured based on machine-collected data? Unfortunately for humanists and social scientists, this system is designed for the natural sciences. While your data is already out there, it may not reflect well on your work. This is often a function of the means of scholarly dissemination and the venues in which we publish, making it critical to educate yourself on the ever-evolving virtual world of innovative research metrics, and take control of what you can. Ada Emmett, Scholarly Communications Librarian, and Marc L. Greenberg, Slavist, will offer a hands-on workshop to help you understand research metrics and develop strategies to give your work greater visibility. Seating is limited, so please RSVP by Nov. 1 to Ada Emmett at aemmett@ku.edu. Upon RSVP you will receive a short preparatory assignment that will make your workshop experience maximally efficient. Computers will be supplied, but you are welcome to bring your own laptop.
