About this event

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has a global impact on regional trade and security. From the Central Asia to Latin America, the BRI provides investment, loans, infrastructure as well as controversy in many countries. While much of the discussion on BRI has centered on China and specific countries, this symposium provides information and analysis on specific regions from experts in the China and regional politics and economic fields. The aim of the symposium is to understand the BRI’s current and future impact on regional trade and security.

 

9-9:50 a.m. CT — Session 1: Latin America

President Luis Guillermo Solís, President of Costa Rica 2014-2018 and director of the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) at Florida International University will speak on China’s and Latin American Nation’s perspective/actions (about 30 minutes), Q&A with moderator and audience questions (about 20 minutes)

10-10:50 a.m. — Session 2: Africa/Middle East

Yuan Wang, Columbia-Harvard, China and World Fellow, will speak on China’s and African/ME Nations perspective/actions (about 30 minutes), Q&A with moderator and audience questions (about 20 minutes)

11 a.m. - 12 p.m. CT - Lunch

12-12:50 p.m. — Session 3: Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe

Robert Ross, Political Science Department at Boston University and Associate, John King Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University will speak on China’s and Central Asian and Russian Nations perspective/actions (about 30 minutes). Q&A with moderator and audience questions (about 20 minutes)

1:00-1:50 p.m. — Session 4: Asia

Ye Min, Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University will speak on China’s and Asian nation’s perspective/actions (about 30 minutes), Q&A with moderator and audience questions (about 20 minutes)

2:00-2:50 p.m. — Panel: China’s BRI Global Impact
