This is an interactive presentation on facilitating Client-Centered End of Life Conversations so that the wishes of the client are honored. Often times the medical system can feel overwhelming, cold, and confusing; this is where Social Workers come in. Social Workers learn what is most important to the client and are an advocate for the patient when family, community, and even medical professionals may not be listening. Participants will learn & reflect on their own experiences, biases, and emotions to increase self awareness and effectiveness with clients.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will learn about what are the common fears & concerns that need to be addressed when someone is near death.
  • Participants will learn about cultural variances that are present when having end of life conversations.
  • Participants will learn how to initiate this conversation in a supportive and client-centered manner.
