This workshop is designed to teach fundamentals of providing psychoeducational and psychotherapy to youth with mood disorders and comorbid conditions. A review of the DSM-V-TR criteria over mood disorders in children and adolescents. Participants will review some case examples and discuss diagnosis and treatment needs. Participants will be building a tool kit to assist in treatment planning. Participants will learn evidenced-based techniques to work with clients to regulate emotions, cognitive behavioral therapy fundamentals; problem solving; verbal and nonverbal skill enhancement; improving healthy habits (sleep hygiene, diet and exercise); changing maladaptive family patterns; sibling issues and specific symptom management strategies.
This course is particularly useful for licensed clinicians who require diagnostic continuing education hours for license renewal.

Presenter:
Rebeca Sandoval is a Professor of Practice at KU's School of Social Welfare and a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker with more than twenty years of experience working with individuals and families. She was born and raised in Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School. She graduated from Hutchinson Community College and Bethany College (Lindsborg, KS) with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Administration of Justice. She graduated with Honors from Newman University (Wichita, KS) with a master’s in social work. In 2008, she graduated from Mid America Nazarene University (Olathe, KS) with a certificate in Play Therapy. In 2012, she graduated with a Master’s in Business from Wichita State University.
She is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, Certified in EMDR (Eye movement de-sensitization and reprocessing), Certified in Group Theraplay and Certified in Aut-Play. She has completed additional training in anxiety disorder treatment, sand tray therapy, filial therapy, Theraplay, bereavement issues, foster care/adoption issues, substance abuse and attachment-based issues. Rebeca has extensive experience in mediation and conflict resolution. She is trained in Court approved Domestic Case Management and Limited Case Management. She specializes in working with high conflict families and helps support the needs of everyone involved.
Rebeca works with all ages and specializes in working with children, teenagers, and families. She specializes in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attachment issues, adoption issues, trauma, grief/loss, and family discord issues. She has an eclectic therapeutic model approach. She believes that no one model, or theory works for everyone when it comes to their specific situation. She focuses on building rapport with individuals and assisting them in setting their own therapeutic goals. She is very client centered. She loves to be creative in therapy and “thinks outside the box”, when needing to come up with solutions to specific struggles.
