Navigating the grant world can be a bit daunting for nonprofits who are new to grants and pursuing this funding source without a strategy or professional guidance can lead to costly mistakes. This course will provide an overview of key steps to help nonprofits develop their grant program in a thoughtful and informed way. The information presented is based upon the nine competencies and skills adopted by the Grant Professional Certification Institute (GPCI) to represent excellence for the grant profession and the Grant Professional Association (GPA) Code of Ethics. Nonprofit representatives will receive a basic overview of what their organization needs to be ready to apply for and receive grant awards, including the development of an internal process to help ensure a successful grant program and post-award processes.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Participants will gain knowledge about organizational development as it pertains to grant seeking (GPCI Competency #2)
  • Participants will gain knowledge of basic strategies to research, identify, and match funding resources to their specific needs (GPCI Competency #1)
  • Participants will gain basic knowledge of constructing and submitting a grant application (GPCI Competency #4)
  • Participants will gain basic knowledge of post-award grant management practices (GPCI Competency #5)
