This session equips attendees with crucial skills to identify, engage, and intervene with substance use, as part of their practice.

Practitioners in and from Southeast Kansas will share the integrated health approaches they bring to meet Substance Use Disorder challenges in their communities and an overview of the state of SUD in the region. Additionally, KUSSW experts in SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral for Treatment) will provide training in the key elements applicable to a range of practice settings.

Presentations will address the importance of addressing our own biases about people who use substances, to forge transformative relationships with clients. And, to build confidence as well as competence, participants will practice motivational interviewing skills crucial for engaging clients’ own motivations for change.

CEU: 6 hours

Lunch will be provided.
