Scalar is a digital, open-source, media-rich scholarly publishing platform that allows authors to incorporate text, digital media, commentary, and annotations. It allows users to uniquely structure essay and book-length works, utilizing nested, recursive, and non-linear formats. Scalar also allows for collaborative authoring and reader commentary. 

This workshop will offer participants a brief introduction to Scalar, going over how to start your first book as well as an overview of how to use the different elements and tools available. The workshop will also touch on potential ways that instructors can utilize Scalar in the classroom, either as a collaborative writing tool, a learning resource, or an alternative to a major assignment.
