About Douglas Day:
We can thank Mary Church Terrell, an African American activist, educator and author, for founding Douglass Day as a way to honor Fredrick Douglass’ memory and activism. Terrell’s leadership would lead to Douglass Day being observed as a nationwide holiday and help serve as the inspiration for Black History month! The Colored Conventions Project has revived this tradition with the help of the University of Delaware to hold an online transcribe-a-thon that invites people to participate in the making of Black History. We are thrilled to be a part of this birthday celebration and can’t wait for you to join!
