Early Human Spaceflight History Series: From the Earliest Dreams of Space to the Lunar Landings

Every July is the anniversary of the first crewed lunar landings, and to mark the occasion will be a series of early spaceflight history lectures built for a general audience.  This program consists of four 1-hr long talks that go through the earliest days of human spaceflight, culminating in the Apollo program.  Each week will be focused on a specific aspect of the early space race.


  • July 6th   {Episode 0: Taking Flight (1232-1958)
  • July 13th {Episode 1: Project Mercury (1958 - 1963)
  • July 20th {Episode 2: Project Gemini (1963-1966)
  • July 27th {Episode 3: Project Apollo (1961-1972)


These talks will be presented via Zoom by Dr. Kevin C. Cooke.  Dr. Cooke is a postdoctoral researcher working in the Physics and Astronomy Dept., and previously worked at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center prior to earning his doctorate in astrophysics.
