The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship provides financial support for students to immerse themselves in the study of these critical languages. The University of Kansas has four designated FLAS granting area studies centers providing funding for twenty-five less commonly taught languages:

• Kansas African Studies Center (KASC)
• Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS)
• Center of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS)
• Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREES)

The information session informs students about U.S. Department of Education regulations, Area Studies Center competitive priorities, strategies to be successful, and more. Sessions are organized by FLAS Coordinators and often include KU Study Abroad Advisors as well as past and current FLAS fellows. The FLAS Coordinators encourage all potential applicants to attend in order to learn critical information and ask individual questions.
