Hannah Birge of The Nature Conservancy will give this week's presentation and provides this overview: "Over the past century, global agricultural supply chains have adapted to achieve the hyperefficient production and transport of goods. While this system has freed billions of people worldwide from food insecurity, it has come at a steep cost to our ecosystems and climate. My work explores these tradeoffs using a complex adaptive systems lens to uncover new ways to manage agricultural supply chains for just and resilient outcomes. Relevant examples will include the Green Revolution, the current Ukraine grain blockade, and the looming bioenergy boom."
