20th Annivesary Open House

THU, NOV. 13, 3:00-6:00 PM

Hall Center for the Humanities

This open house is free and open to the public!

Did you know the Hall Center's home at 900 Sunnyside Avenue sits on a foundation of KU history? Originally constructed in 1887 as a three-story Powerhouse for the University of Kansas, the building is the oldest remaining structure on Mount Oread and one of five KU buildings designed by noted Kansas architect John G. Haskell.

After a fire in 1898 left the Powerhouse severely damaged, it spent much of the next century as a storage facility. By the 1990s, the building was slated for demolition — but preservationists and generous gifts from the Hall Family Foundation saved it from the wrecking ball.

In January of 2005, it became the new home for the Hall Center for the Humanities, retaining its original stone arch facade, now immortalized in our logo.

Join us on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 3-6 p.m. for refreshments and hors d'oeuvres as we celebrate not only the space, but the two decades of conversations, collaborations, and ideas that were born here.
