Join the Department of Health, Sport & Exercise Sciences for the inaugural event in our Industry Talk Series, featuring Aftan Jameson, Program Strategist with the Center for Women’s Health at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

In her talk, Building Health Equity Through Community–Clinical Linkages: Local Policy, National Recommendations, and Family Medicine Impact, Aftan will explore how community engagement, public health policy, and clinical practice intersect to advance health equity, particularly in maternal and women’s health. Drawing from her experience in academic leadership, local tobacco policy initiatives, and national women’s health strategy, she will share insights on translating evidence into practice, strengthening community–clinical partnerships, and creating systems-level change that improves outcomes for underserved populations.

Students will gain a behind-the-scenes look at careers in public health strategy and family medicine, including real-world applications of nutrition, chronic disease prevention, maternal health, and health policy. The session will conclude with a Q&A, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with a leader working at the forefront of national health initiatives.
