DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \n\nOne of the most important positions in 
 any law enforcement organization is the front-line supervisor. While there 
 are commonalities between managing patrol units and detective units\, there
  are also many differences\, from the way we dress to the types of decision
 s we are forced to make. These differences are not always readily identifia
 ble to the newly transferred supervisor. This class is for those already in
  supervisory roles as well as those aspiring to be in a supervisory role to
  identify and develop strategies for dealing with these unique issues head 
 on. In this class we will discuss:\n\nOverview of detective units\, includi
 ng cultural issues such as friction between patrol and detectivesLegal issu
 es specific to investigatorsAdministrative issues such as personnel selecti
 on\; equipment and training\; policy and discipline\; case assignments\; an
 d team spirit vs. elitismOperational issues from the perspective of leading
  and supervising\, to include: officer safety\; high risk activities\; high
  profile investigations\; officer involved shootings\; and internal crimina
 l or administrative investigations for your agency and outside entities  \n
 \nCore Competencies:\n\nParticipants will employ best practices as they inv
 estigate any crime from its beginning to its eventual disposition\; either 
 as an individual\, or as part of an investigatory team.Participants will ap
 praise and adopt the duties and behaviors incumbent upon a law enforcement 
 leader who acts in ways that support the needs of their organization\, comm
 unity\, and profession.  \n\nCourse Objectives: \n\nLaw enforcement trainin
 g should be practical\, relatable\, and results oriented. Upon the completi
 on of this training\, attendees should be able to:Recognize practical and c
 ultural differences between patrol and detective work groups. Gain awarenes
 s of legal issues that affect detectives.Identify administrative matters an
 d issues specific to investigations units\, along with appropriate planning
  measures and responses.Identify operational scenarios and situations\, spe
 cific to investigations units\, along with appropriate planning measures an
 d responses.Adapt and scale the information learned to their specific organ

 red towards those individuals tasked with the supervision and leadership of
  detective units\, with particular focus on those who may have no or minima
 l prior experience in the investigative function\, or those who may have th
 is position in the future. Additionally\, this is a good refresher course f
 or those already in the role.  \n\nCourse Requirements:\n\n100% Attendance

 ss in layers\, as the temperature in the room may be difficult to adjust. T
 he session begins at 8:00AM and is estimated to end at 5:00PM. On-site regi
 stration will begin at 7:30AM.\n\nKLETC Dormitory Information:\n\nFor those
  with reservations at KLETC Welch Hall Dormitory\, and specifically for tho
 se attendees who desire to come in the night before\, please come to the Ma
 in KLETC Entrance marked on the map\, it is near the flagpole and marked wi
 th a large "A". You may check into your room between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM M
 onday through Friday. If you arrive after 10:00 PM the doors will be locked
 \, however you can contact security at 316-239-8882\, and after answering t
 heir questions\, they will assist you in getting room keys. Checkout time i
 s Noon on your departure day or last day of training\, please have all pers
 onal items removed at that time.\n\nAll lodging attendees will find an enve
 lope containing their room key at the front desk in the main lobby receptio
 n area. Sheets and a blanket are furnished for our guests. Items you may wi
 sh to bring: Alarm Clock\, Bath Towels\, Wash Cloths\, Soap\, Shampoo\, Hai
 r Dryer\, Pillow and Pillowcase and an Extra Blanket.\n\nWeapon Safety - KL
 ETC adopted a new weapons policy effective July 1\, 2017. The concealed car
 ry of handguns shall be permitted on the KLETC Campus\, including all build
 ings and public areas to the maximum extent possible while ensuring the saf
 ety of the staff\, students and guests in a training environment. The open 
 carry of firearms shall be prohibited unless necessary for instruction in a
 n authorized training program. Nothing in this procedure is intended to int
 erfere with a law enforcement officer performing his or her official law en
 forcement duties on the KLETC campus. Law Enforcement officers attending co
 ntinuing education or basic training classes or are attending meetings or o
 ther academy- related events\, are permitted to carry their firearm while o
 n the KLETC campus. Law enforcement officers carrying a firearm on the KLET
 C campus must possess appropriate agency identification. ABSOLUTELY NO stud
 ent\, instructor\, or role player is allowed to carry any firearm into an a
 rea where signage stating "no live weapons or ammunition is allowed in trai
 ning safety areas" is present. You are responsible for ensuring that your f
 irearm is secured in a safe\, reasonable\, and acceptable manner while on t
 he KLETC campus. Questions regarding this policy for continuing education s
 tudents\, instructors or guests may be directed to the KLETC Assistant Dire
 ctor for Professional Development and Continuing Education\n\nRefund/Cancel
 lation Policy: A full refund of lodging fees will be available if requested
  in writing coned@kletc.org and received by KLETC ten days prior to the beg
 inning date of the seminar. After that date\, but prior to the seminar\, re
 funds will be made\, but a $25.00 administrative fee will be charged. No re
 funds will be made after the starting date of the seminar. If you have any
