Girly Statistics
Misty Heggeness (Associate Professor, School of Public Affairs and Administration, Co-Director, Kansas Population Center)
Economic statistics have a long history of informing policy, yet we spend little time analyzing the history of these statistics and how they were constructed. This talk will discuss the origins of major economic statistics and highlight some girly statistics that were originally excluded from the development of our economic measures. Heggeness will highlight why this matters and what happens when we start incorporating them into our official statistics.
IPSR is a research center supporting social scientists who focus on social problems and policy-relevant questions. Our monthly research luncheons provide a space for affiliated faculty and staff researchers to share their own ongoing work with the KU community.
