About this Event
(This event was originally scheduled for April 2024 and had to be postponed becuse of inclement weather.) In celebration of its 75th anniversary, the University of Kansas Field Station will be open for its first public Visitors' Day in more than 20 years. Members of the public will be welcomed behind the scenes to tour the restricted-access research areas at the Field Station to visit ongoing research projects. Stations will be set up along a ¾-mile gravel "research road" from the Armitage Education Center to the Frank B. Cross Reservoir. Participants may walk at their own pace (the entire route or just part of the way) and talk with researchers, who will be stationed along the road to discuss their work with visitors.
Limited edition 75th anniversary shirts will be available for sale while supplies last. Restrooms will be open inside the Armitage Center.
Vistors should come to the Field Station's headquarters at 350 Wild Horse Road, about 15 minutes north of downtown Lawrence, Kansas. The entrance is clearly marked by the gateway sign in the photo with this listing. Proceed through this gate and a second gate to the Armitage Education Center and parking.
There is no need to RSVP, but please check this event listing or our social media pages (listed below) on Friday evening (Oct. 4) or Saturday morning (Oct. 5) for updates in case of inclement weather.
