“The Why, What, Who, When and Where of Carbon Capture

and Storage in Southern Ontario”:  Southern Ontario, Canada’s industrial heartland, has an urgent need to establish carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs. Many of the point-source CO2 emitters in this area are heavy industries that produce materials (e.g., steel, concrete, plastics) needed to make the transition to low- or zero-carbon emission energy sources. They also are significant contributors to the local, provincial, and national economies and cannot easily be shut down without social and political consequences. This presentation documents the geoscience screening workflow that identified Cambrian sandstones of Southern Ontario, particularly along the north shore of Lake Eries, as the most targeted for geologic sequestration.
