“Groundwater Modeling for Research Management”, Groundwater models are a common tool in aquifer management, but they may require hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop and often require specialized expertise to run scenarios and interpret results. We are in the midst of a revolution in modeling, with big data ushering us from a process-based to a machine learning paradigm. And yet, there is a disconnect between the tools and information available, and the tools and information that are useful. This talk will draw on groundwater modeling literature and examples from the High Plains (Ogallala) Aquifer to present the state of the field and offer recommendations for making groundwater science more accessible to decisionmakers.
