Mary Jo Reiff, who is the Director of Composition (English 101 and 102), will share ideas for how writing teachers plan to integrate the book into their introductory courses and assignments. The focus will be on a rhetorical analysis assignment for English 101 that integrates the review/rating and evaluative features of The Anthropocene Reviewed and on a cultural artifact assignment for English 102 that integrates some of the short essays from the book that analyze the cultural relevance of objects/artifacts. In general, the series of brief essays could be used to illustrate techniques for argumentation, analysis, use of evidence, as well as style (voice, tone, and language use) and could be the starting point for various writing prompts. This session would be beneficial to anyone considering using the book in a first-year student course.
Copies of the book will be available at all Teach-In events.
