Artist Statement: "My sculptural and mixed media work reimagines cultural identity through Mexican American car customization using the ancient vessel as a conduit for anthropological study of region and time. My works are placed in the present as I explore themes surrounding religion, indigeneity, and regional mythology. Through the lens of lowrider aesthetics, I construct pieces that call back to the vehicle as an extension of creative individuality within a regional movement. I build vessels with the intention of challenging conventional methods by reimagining historical concepts and using contemporary materials to render surface and form. By using automotive finishes to embellish my pieces, I celebrate customs of storytelling with members from our community that share in the same lived experience as we find commonalities in a cultural movement."
