Visual Art MFA Candidate, Tommy Lomeli, presents his thesis exhibition, "Kustoms". The show opens on April 15th, and the closing reception is April 18th at 5pm at the Edgar Heap of Birds Family Gallery in Chalmers hall.

The reception will proudly include a Lowrider exhibition with local car club @diverseonescc

Artist Statement: "My sculptural and mixed media work reimagines cultural identity through Mexican American car customization using the ancient vessel as a conduit for anthropological study of region and time. My works are placed in the present as I explore themes surrounding religion, indigeneity, and regional mythology. Through the lens of lowrider aesthetics, I construct pieces that call back to the vehicle as an extension of creative individuality within a regional movement. I build vessels with the intention of challenging conventional methods by reimagining historical concepts and using contemporary materials to render surface and form. By using automotive finishes to embellish my pieces, I celebrate customs of storytelling with members from our community that share in the same lived experience as we find commonalities in a cultural movement."
