This lecture will be presented virtually streamed via zoom. 

The KU Design Symposium Lecture Series (formerly the Hallmark Symposium) was established in 1984 to enrich the education of all KU students, and in particular those in the Department of Design, through exposure to designers, artists and educators from the United States and around the world. In this 35-plus year history, the series has grown to become a cultural asset to the local creative community beyond campus. Each year, students and area professionals are able to view groundbreaking work, explore provocative ideas, and learn from the practitioners who are expanding what is possible through art, design, and creative action.  

All lectures are free and open to the public, both in person on campus or virtually.

Janelle "Longanisa" Quibuyen is a Filipini-American graphic designer & artist with a knack for all things internet. 

Her most recent work has been in the digital realm, strategizing and designing social media campaigns that transform complex ideas into digestible content and compelling stories that build and mobilize online communities. Her expertise has been crafted by managing and growing my clientele’s social media presence over the past 7 years. And maybe longer if you want to include her toughest, longest-running client (me) from when she first learned how to code her own website from scratch in 1998.

Though digital is Janellee's jam, she's no stranger to the technical side of print design. As a graphic designer with over 10 years of experience, She's worked both in-house and freelance, to deliver print-ready solutions for package design, posters, flyers, apparel, and more.

Janelle was raised by Ilokano working-class immigrants and the greater Filipino diaspora. She believes in the power of graphic design and art to illuminate the underrepresented and spark social impact. She is always rooting for the underdog.

Janelle attended the Graphic Design & Illustration program at Seattle Central College, graduated in 2011, and has been working and playing in the creative industry ever since.
