DESCRIPTION:This lecture will be presented virtually streamed via zoom. \n\
 nThe KU Design Symposium Lecture Series (formerly the Hallmark Symposium) 
 was established in 1984 to enrich the education of all KU students\, and i
 n particular those in the Department of Design\, through exposure to desig
 ners\, artists and educators from the United States and around the world. 
 In this 35-plus year history\, the series has grown to become a cultural a
 sset to the local creative community beyond campus. Each year\, students a
 nd area professionals are able to view groundbreaking work\, explore provo
 cative ideas\, and learn from the practitioners who are expanding what is 
 possible through art\, design\, and creative action.  \n\nAll lectures are
  free and open to the public\, both in person on campus or virtually.\n\n_
 _____\n\nBorn and raised in Shanghai\, China\, Pixy Liao is an artist who 
 currently resides in Brooklyn\, NY.\nLiao has participated in exhibitions 
 internationally\, including the Fotografiska\, Rencontres d’Arles in Arl
 es\, Asia Society\, the National Gallery of Australia\, etc.\nShe is a rec
 ipient of the NYFA Fellowship in photography\, Santo Foundation Individual
  Artist Awards\, Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival Madame Figaro 
 Women Photographers Award\, En Foco's New Works Fellowship\, LensCulture E
 xposure Awards\, etc. She has done artist residencies at Light Work\, Lowe
 r Manhattan Cultural Council\, Center for Photography at Woodstock\, Unive
 rsity of Arts London\, School of Visual Arts\, Pioneer Works\, and Camera 
 Club of New York.\nLiao holds an MFA in photography from the University of
  Memphis.
