Although researchers consistently find that physical health declines substantially during midlife for women, much about what produces this trend is unexplored. One notable gap in prior literature is the impact of simultaneously providing care to both elderly parents and young children (i.e., sandwich caregiving) on the health and well-being of midlife women.

 

Qi (Amelia) Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She received her PhD in Sociology from The Ohio State University and completed a one-year postdoc at Cornell University. Her research uses quantitative methods to examine how family processes contribute to racial disparities in health. Her work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Population Research and Policy Review, and Social Science Research.
