About this Event
Thursdays, June 30, July 7 & 14, 2-3:30 p.m.
We will review a few of the 3,525 Medal of Honor recipients from Civil War General Joshua Chamberlain to WWII's First Lt. Audie Murphy to Army Sgt. Christopher Celiz in Afghanistan. Created in 1861 during the American Civil War, we'll study the Medal's history, how it has changed over time, what privileges attach to the Medal, and how the honor is awarded by the president. Finally, we'll discuss the controversies surrounding the 27th Maine, whose 864 members all received Medals of Honor, and the Medals awarded to 20 Seventh Cavalry troops involved in the 1890 Sioux massacre.
