Oliver Phillips was a much-loved Professor of Classics at KU for three decades, 1964-1994.  He was recognized at Kansas with a Mortar Board Award for teaching in 1978 and was given a CAMWS ovatio in 1993, the year before his retirement. After his retirement he continued to teach honors sections of Western Civ and led various Latin reading groups on and off campus. 

The KU Department of Classics holds a regular colloquium on pedagogy in his honor.
