Dr. Kortney Carr’s practice experiences—where she often found that she needed to adjust clinical interventions to meet the needs of the Black men who sought out her therapeutic expertise—catalyzed her doctoral studies, and her dissertation explored how social workers’ biases about constructions about Black men, specifically. She explored the contributors to these biases and constructions and the ways in which they affect social workers’ ability to effectively provide trauma-informed practice interventions with Black men.

This Research Impact Talk examines this research and its implications for social work practice and invites attendees to examine our own biases, in an effort to improve social work practice with and for Black men.
