 r. Rebecca Whelan\, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at t
 he University of Kansas.\n\nIn this talk\, Dr. Whelan will discuss biomarke
 rs\, a biological molecule that can be measured to report on health and dis
 ease.\n \n\nMaking the best use of biomarkers to diagnose and cure disease 
 requires that the biomarker is well understood at the molecular level and t
 hat reliable tools to detect the biomarker are available. Ongoing research 
 in the Whelan lab addresses both requirements\, with a focus on ovarian can
 cer biomarkers. This SoT presentation will describe the promise and challen
 ge of biomarkers broadly and highlight how innovations in sequencing techno
 logies and AI-guided structure prediction—along with tried-and-true laborat
 ory methods—have enabled new insight on the gold-standard ovarian cancer bi
 omarker.\n \n\nThis free presentation/Q&A is open to the public and will be
