Join us at Free State Brewing Company for Science on Tap with Dr. Emily Beck, Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas.
In this talk, Studying Human Diseases using Weird Fishes, Dr. Beck will discuss how millions of years of evolution is sometimes more creative than scientists. By studying a range of unusual fish species,—from Antarctic icefish and Alaskan threespine stickleback to African turquoise killifish and beyond—Beck's lab has found new avenues into understanding human diseases. These "weird fishes" have opened up new research pathways for tackling complex conditions like melanoma, epilepsy, and diabetes.
This free presentation/Q&A is open to the public and will be held in the beer hall area at Free State Brewing Company. Please note that seating is limited, so we encourage you to arrive early!
