Purpose: The speaker showcase aims to bring forward students’ ideas on community health problems and solutions. Communication studies students will have an opportunity to present a persuasive speech on subjects of pivotal importance to the KU and Lawrence community.

Theme: This year’s theme is “Community Health.”

In 2023, we are experiencing the continued aftermath of the COVID pandemic, the disastrous consequences of climate change, an increase in food deserts, widening economic inequality, increased maternal mortality rates, as well as numerous other dilemmas. Given this, it is vital and necessary that community members of Lawrence, Kansas develop viable and sustainable solutions to the most pressing health, education, transportation, environmental, and economic problems of the new decade.
