Hoffman’s book The Engaged Scholar: Expanding the Impact of Academic Research in Today's World (Stanford University Press) argues for the emergence of a more publicly and politically engaged scholar. The Engaged Scholar is a call to recognize meaningful connections with communities beyond the realm of the academy and recognizes achievements beyond the scholarly realm.

This discussion will offer opportunities for graduate students to develop community engaged research practices and learn about channels for sharing their work with public audiences.

Graduate students are encouraged to bring ideas, questions, and examples of how this could look in their fields, for generative discussion.
