“Semantic digital editions” refers to digital versions of texts or documents that go beyond simple text display. Semantic documents are encoded with meaningful tags that allow for deeper analysis and interaction, and that connect textual elements with external texts and resources.
In this one-hour workshop, participants will learn to use the LEAF Commons suite of tools to create dynamic, enriched digital editions of texts. Designed with humanities scholars in mind, these free web-based tools make it easy to encode texts with meaningful data connections that link people to biographies, places to maps, and citations to sources--without the need for coding expertise. The workshop will cover the basics of the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) standard for scholarly encoding, showcase examples of scholarly editions enriched with linked data, and include hands-on exercises using LEAF's intuitive tools.
This workshop offers a low-barrier, no-cost pathway to creating dynamic, standards-based digital texts that can be linked to the wider web of knowledge and serve as powerful, collaborative resources for teaching and research.
Registration is required.
