About the Film

WWII Japanese war brides share their stories of struggle and triumph. Arriving in the US alongside husbands who were their former enemies, they experienced being disowned by their Japanese families and rejection by their American in-laws.

About the Series

The movie series is part this year’s migration program funded by our Title VI grant. Under the conceptual umbrella of “Global Asia,” which seeks to address diverse perspectives on pressing national and international issues, the program will address diverse migration-related issues and concerns through educational activities such as a movie series, workshops, and a spring conference.

Explore other films in the series: The Cats of Mirikitani, Minari, and Carved in Silence.

Sponsored by the KU Center for East Asian Studies, Kress Foundation Department of Art History, Department of Film & Media Studies, and Department of Curriculum & Teaching
