About this Event
1301 Jayhawk Boulevard, Lawrence, KS 66045
If you would like to participate in this session, please register by April 5. The first 20 people who register for and attend a Being Human session will receive a copy of Bunnel and Jaswal’s new book, Being Human in STEM: Partnering with Students to Shape Inclusive Practices and Communities.
Building on the 4/10 HSTEM keynote, this hands-on workshop will invite attendees to practice a set of inclusive teaching strategies identified by students as being particularly important for their learning and sense of belonging in the classroom, such as community building practices, reflection activities that allow individuals to better understand their own and others' journeys in academia, strategies for improving collaboration in group settings, and active listening activities. Throughout, individuals will be asked to consider how they might adapt these practices into their own teaching and mentoring spaces. Workshop participants will leave with new strategies to implement in their classrooms.
